Generation One

1.  JOH. JACOB1 GIESS was born circa 1635; (estimate based on year of birth of his son, Adam).  He married Agnes (--?--) circa 1653.    "wohnt auf dem Schloss[from the castle] zu Kastellaun."
     He was a godparent at the baptism of his grandson Philipp Jacob Magnus on 14 Feb 1688 at Kastellaun, Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany; Godparents were "(patrini) Philippus Reck[?] et Joannes Jacobus Gies matria Anna Maria Hartman Jois Matthiae Hartman ex Castellaun uxor."
    "Hans Jacob Giesen Haus und Stall": He rebuilt his house and stable/cowshed after the destruction of the town of Kastellaun by the French.

     Children of Joh. Jacob1 Giess and Agnes (--?--) were as follows:

       i. ADAM ALBERT2; born 20 Mar 1655 at Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany.

      ii. PHILIPP MARTIN; born 1658 at Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany; 30th day, month unknown.

 2.  iii. MARIA MARGARETHA, born circa 1660; married Johann Jacob Magnus.

       iv. JOHANN (HANS) PETER; born 5 Jan 1668 at Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany; ,  died 3 Jul 1736 at Karden, Rheinland, now Germany, at age 68.
     He was a Catholic priest: "Kath Geistlicher, ordiniert 23.12.1691. Trier, Prabendat und Vikar des Kreuzaltars zu Karden" on 23 Dec 1691.
     He witnessed the baptism of his grand-niece Anna Barbara Ernst on 7 Oct 1717 at Kastellaun, Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany; Godparents were "Rdo adome Dno Joes Petro Geiss Cardena Bplq[?] conciegero et virtuosa virgine Anna Barbara legitima filia Jois Bion[?] Confluenzertieri [from Koblenz] __ Brcabroilstein[?].
     He was a godparent at the baptism of his grand-niece Maria Margaretha Jahn on 11 May 1722 at Kastellaun, Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany; Godparents were "Rdo Dno Joes Petro Gies c__oigero Carden___ et honesto Petro Magnus coelibe Castellaunn et virtuosa virgo Maria Margaretha Steffens, hon Petro Steffens filia in Lottolschitt [?]."
     He was a godparent at the baptism of his sister's granddaughter Johann Peter Magnus circa 22 Jan 1727 at probably Kastellaun, Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany; Godparents were "Erincio [?] Domino Joanne Petro Gies vicario S. Crucis Carden [the baby's grandmother's brother], et virtuosa Anna Francisca Corneliussin ex Castello Hunnorum". (Baptism probably took place in Kastellaun; the parents were described as "ex Castellaun".).

Generation Two

2.  MARIA MARGARETHA2 GIES(EN) (Joh.1Giess) was born circa 1660.  She married Johann Jacob Magnus, son of Jacob Magnus, in Oct 1681 at Kastellaun, Rheinland, Prussia; Their 2nd child was born in 1683.  She died on 13 Feb 1750 at Kastellaun, Rheinland, Prussia; "Maria Margaretha Jacobi Magnus civis vidua." ,
     She was a godparent at the baptism of her grandson Michael Jahn on 21 Oct 1712 at Kastellaun, Kr. Simmern, Rheinland, now Germany; Godparents were "Joe Michaele Ernst et Joes Jacobi Magnus uxore Sion[?] bpti avia ex Castellaun."
